OVERVIEW

BACKGROUND

Due to the growing demand for housing in the region since 2011, the City and developer began exploring potential opportunities to modify the Oyster Point Specific Plan to include housing and retail in Phases III and IV of the project.

The City and developer recognize that an opportunity exists to add to the biotech area east of 101 with much needed new housing, retail and recreational space, and possibly help offset traffic impacts by providing housing close to businesses.

In January, 2017, the developer submitted an application to the planning commission for approval to study the impact of proposed modifications to Phases III and IV of the plan. The proposal features approximately 1,191 residential units and 22,000 square feet of retail, amenity and flex-use space along with the public realm improvements consistent with the existing Oyster Point Specific Plan.
